The Lowergetikum is a sustainable low-tech building as a demonstration and test building for the integral and interdisciplinary investigation of low-tech approaches. By setting up this infrastructure, questions in the field of low-tech buildings will be investigated under real conditions and on a long-term scale.
The central approach to realising the low-tech idea in the context of the given usage functions is a storage mass-based heat exchange concept between room-enclosing building components, occupied areas in the room and the heat/cooling source available at the location. The basic conditioning of the laboratory and office areas takes place via activated concrete ceilings (thermal component activation). The excess heat in the interior is transferred to the groundwater in free-cooling mode during the summer months. A heat pump is also used to reduce dehumidification of the supply air in the summer months. The heat pump primarily heats the building in winter. Winter operation is the dimensioning parameter due to the low-tech approach. The drive energy required for this is to be obtained primarily from renewable sources (solar power).
