Energy & Environment

The issues of energy and the environment are inextricably linked and interact closely. Innovative, sustainable solutions are required in order to achieve climate targets and at the same time maintain the supply of energy and resources. At the Centre for Energy Transition, around 30 employees from various specialist disciplines are researching innovative and sustainable solutions for an ecologically, economically and socially acceptable transition.

The centre is divided into three research areas:

Strategic partnerships in projects and beyond are a key aspect in the processing of issues and implementation in demo projects. These partnerships extend to other research institutions, municipalities, technology partners, energy suppliers, public bodies, SMEs and also the users (private and corporate) in the regions addressed.

The centre's activities are supported by laboratory equipment as well as state-of-the-art simulation and participation methods that can be individually adapted to the problem at hand.

Laboratory

Boiler test bench: Determination of performance and efficiency of log, wood chip and pellet boilers with integrated flue gas analysis and particulate matter measurement
Lambda probe test bench: Measurement of lambda probes to determine measurement accuracy and cross-sensitivity to trace gases
Fuel analysis: Analysing the fuel properties of solid and liquid fuels
Pelletisation test stand: Test stand for the production of pellets using a flat die press
Pyrolysis reactor: screw reactors (throughput 0.5 - 2 kg/h; temperature range 300 - 700°C)
GC/MS coupling for the analysis of solid (pyrolisable), liquid (vaporisable) and gaseous samples
Continuous gas and waste gas analyses using FTIR
Continuous waste gas analyses for_CO2, CO, _SO2, _NOx, total hydrocarbons, methane, water vapour and oxygen
