Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV) test stand

With the help of a PIV system (Particle Image Velocimetry), velocity fields of transparent gases or liquids can be recorded and quantified without contact.

In the PIV measurement, seeding particles are fed into the flow to be analysed and illuminated with two pulsed laser light sections in one plane. The position of the illuminated particles is recorded with a camera at the same time as the pulsed light sections. The flow velocity is calculated taking into account the particle displacement and the known time interval between the pulses. In contrast to point measurement methods, the velocity is recorded simultaneously at several points within the light section plane. This means that unsteady flow fields can also be visualised and analysed.
