Health Research Centre

The ‘Health Lab’ at the Pinkafeld site is a competence and research centre for research-led simulation programmes.

The multi-sensory simulation rooms are based on the pillars of ‘lighting technology’, ‘sound’ and ‘fragrancing’. These three components appeal to the important human senses of ‘hearing’, ‘sight’ and ‘smell’. By consciously organising these sensory impressions, people's well-being can be significantly and positively influenced. The concept of basal stimulation, for example, utilises this fact and attempts to improve people's perception and therefore their well-being through visual, auditory and olfactory stimuli.

This research equipment provides significant impetus for the research focus on the use of evidence-based simulation programmes.

TECHNICAL DATA:

  • LED lighting solution concept: This offers the possibility of biorhythmic light control. This can influence the human circadian rhythm and thus also performance and well-being. In accordance with these scientific findings, ‘activation’, ‘concentration’ and ‘relaxation’ light settings were installed for the simulation rooms. The ‘Activation’ option provides lighting conditions that promote a good working atmosphere. The ‘Concentration’ setting enables an increased level of attention and should only be used for short periods. With ‘Relaxation’, the effect of breaks can be optimally supported by lighting

  • Sound: The psychophysiological effect of sounds and music has already been scientifically proven. For example, cardiovascular activity can be altered by appropriate acoustic stimulation. The methodology of ‘subliminal music’ is used in the multisensory research rooms for this purpose. In line with the lighting control system, the settings ‘concentration’ (to increase attention), ‘activation’ (for a good working atmosphere) and ‘relaxation’ (for adequate recovery during breaks) are also used here.

  • Scenting: The research equipment in the multi-sensory research rooms also includes an air conditioning system that enables the room to be well-scented. The factors ‘room size’ and ‘room temperature’ were given particular consideration in this context in order to be able to adequately organise the intensity of the scenting.
