Pinkafeld, 4 July 2024 - For the third time, Facility Management Austria (FMA) invited visitors to take a look behind the scenes of the climate-neutral building stock in Austria and go on a CO2 countdown tour. The respective winners of the CO2 Countdown Awards will be visited. On 26 June, the third of a total of five stops was made at Forschung Burgenland on the Pinkafeld campus.
Last year's winner PRELUDE
At the CO2 Countdown Award 2023 organised by the Network for Facility Management Austria, the PRELUDE research project impressed both the expert jury and the public in the voting and won in the categories ‘Creative rethinking’ and ‘Innovative energy management solutions for existing and new buildings’. The 20 project partners in this EU-funded Horizon2020 project come from all over Europe. In this EU project, an innovative energy management solution for buildings was developed that optimises energy operation using data-driven, predictive control and AI algorithms. At the ENERGETIKUM office building and Living Lab, this has led to significant reductions in heating and cooling energy as well as CO2 emissions. During the tour of the Pinkafeld campus, participants were able to see the innovative and promising energy management solution for themselves.
Practical tour
Research Burgenland Managing Director Marcus Keding provided insights into the current research projects in the field of building technology at Research Burgenland during the course of the day. Georg Stadlhofer, Vice-President and Head of IFMA Austria, presented the initiative. Magdalena Ringhofer, research associate at Forschung Burgenland, gave a presentation on ‘CO2 reduction through intelligent energy management solutions for existing and new buildings’.
Peter Klanatsky, university lecturer in the Department of Energy & Environment at Burgenland University of Applied Sciences, guided visitors through the ENERGETIKUM and LOWERGETIKUM living labs and the Energy & Environmental Technology Laboratory. The developments of the energy management solution implemented as part of the PRELUDE project in the ENERGETIKUM living lab were explained in a practical way. Around 20 participants consisting of representatives from FMA/IFMA, alumni, students and researchers took part in the tour.
