Visitors to this year’s Entrepreneurs’ Day received fascinating insights and valuable information on artificial intelligence in building technology from Christian Heschl (Centre for Building Technology at Forschung Burgenland), Theresa Kohl (DiLT Analytics FlexCo), Rainer Partl (Forschung Burgenland) and Jürgen Beiglböck (rmDATA GmbH). Topics covered included AI agents, practical AI projects, machine ‘vision’ and AI-assisted building modelling.
Forschung Burgenland showcases AI innovations in theory and practice
Following a welcome address by Marcus Keding, Managing Director of Forschung Burgenland, Christian Strasser, President of IV-Burgenland, and Bernhard Puttinger, Managing Director of Green Tech Valley, the technical programme began with presentations on the role of artificial intelligence in building services engineering. Experts from academia and industry highlighted current developments: from AI agents in building services engineering, through success factors for AI projects and ‘machine vision’, to practical examples from industry.
Marcus Keding then gave a guided tour of the “Lowergetikum” and “Energetikum” Living Labs, where Forschung Burgenland impressively demonstrated its expertise in the field of applied AI in building services engineering. “Artificial intelligence optimises processes, boosts efficiency and delivers more precise results – a decisive advantage for innovative solutions in building services engineering,” explains Marcus Keding. “Our research projects are already successfully utilising AI technologies in the development of intelligent and forward-looking applications. With our practical use cases and sound research, we support companies in fully exploiting the opportunities offered by digitalisation and artificial intelligence,” he says, emphasising the practical focus of the research projects in Pinkafeld.
“The combination of engineering sciences and artificial intelligence opens up entirely new possibilities for sustainably optimising the entire life cycle of buildings,” Christian Heschl also emphasises. He heads the Research Centre for Building Technology at Forschung Burgenland and is Head of the Master’s programme in Building Technology and Building Management at Burgenland University of Applied Sciences.
Bernhard Puttinger, Managing Director of Green Tech Valley, adds: “AI will help drive the complex energy and resource transition. At Green Tech Valley, companies and research institutions are working together on AI-based energy solutions for buildings. The cluster supports development processes and innovation using artificial intelligence.”
Strengthening the region’s innovative capacity
“Many local industrial companies are engaged in intensive research and development. Innovation forms an important foundation for the economic success of industry in Austria and in Burgenland,” says Christian Strasser, President of IV-Burgenland. “This makes it all the more important to engage in dialogue with research institutions and explore opportunities for cooperation.”
“The rapid progress in the field of artificial intelligence in particular is opening up entirely new opportunities for companies,” adds IV-Burgenland Managing Director Aniko Benkö. “As IV-Burgenland, it is therefore a major priority for us to strengthen the region’s innovative capacity and to create sustainable networks between industry and research.”
