Eisenstadt, 12.06.2024– Research, development and innovation are key drivers of progress in the economy and society. In 2023, researchers from the University of Applied Sciences and Forschung Burgenland once again supported regional SMEs in driving innovative concepts forward. ‘In general, the demand for research collaborations with regional companies has risen sharply. Companies want to find solutions, investigate and scrutinise,’ explains Forschung Burgenland Managing Director Marcus Keding. Research foci such as building technology and renewable energies in particular are hitting the mark. ‘The focus here is clearly on the field of artificial intelligence. The research projects in the Building Technology and Energy Transition research centres in particular are very much concerned with this topic,’ says the Managing Director.

The new service catalogue provides information about this spectrum. It presents all research projects in 2023 from the three research centres (Building Technology, Energy and Environmental Technology, Smart Computing Continuum) and the five departments of UAS Burgenland (Energy & Environment, Business, Information Technology, Social Affairs and Health). In order to document and present the committed role of the university and its research subsidiary in the field of sustainability, all projects are once again assigned to the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) this year. ‘Research makes a significant contribution to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals. That's why the SDGs are also anchored and are considered and ultimately cited in every single project,’ explains Keding.
Almost 140 researchers are currently involved in the projects. Of these, around 45 are employed by Forschung Burgenland and around 95 are lecturers at the university who are involved in research projects. The contract volume amounts to 12.0 million euros. This means that Burgenland University of Applied Sciences and Forschung Burgenland play a central role when it comes to catching up in research in Burgenland.
