Eisenstadt, 4 July 2025: With the 2024 catalogue of services, Forschung Burgenland and Burgenland University of Applied Sciences document all of their research activities in 2024 - the topics range from energy-efficient construction to digital transformation, sustainable innovations, health and business. Over 137 projects with more than 450 partner institutions and a contract volume of 13 million euros make it clear that research in Burgenland is broad-based, internationally networked - and regionally effective.
Provincial Councillor Leonhard Schneemann, responsible for research and innovation, is impressed:
"Research is the engine that drives our province into the future. What is being initiated here in Burgenland not only strengthens our innovative power, but also the competitiveness of our economy. The close co-operation between science, companies and public institutions is exemplary - and exactly what is needed to be successful as a region in the long term. The researchers at the Burgenland University of Applied Sciences and Research put ideas into practice, create new solutions and thus provide important impetus for the location."
Provincial Councillor for Education Daniela Winkler also emphasises the strategic role of the university:
"Burgenland University of Applied Sciences is more than just a place of education - it is a centre for innovation, transfer and development. Not only is knowledge imparted here, but solutions for the challenges of our time are actively developed. The combination of applied research with excellent teaching makes all the difference. This permeability between education, research and practice is a great asset for our country."
Sustainable research with a regional impact
The 2024 service catalogue lists all research projects from the Building Technology and Energy Transition research areas, as well as the university's four departments (Energy & Environment, Health & Social Affairs, Business and Information Technology). Each project is assigned to the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The clear message: sustainability is not a side issue, but a central component of all research activities.
Gerda Füricht-Figl, Vice Rector for Research and Innovation at the Burgenland University of Applied Sciences, sees the new catalogue of services as a strong signal to the outside world: "The catalogue of services impressively shows how intensively we conduct research - and how specifically we select the topics that move our region, our society and our economy. The interplay between teaching and research is particularly important to me: students are often part of projects, work together with partners from the field and contribute their perspectives. This proximity to research ensures that our teaching remains up-to-date, innovative and directly application-oriented. Our students are encouraged to think outside the box, try things out and help shape things.
Marcus Keding, Managing Director of Forschung Burgenland, emphasises the role of research as a driving force for the region: "Our task is to develop scientifically sound solutions for real challenges - whether in energy supply, digitalisation or the social sector. Forschung Burgenland is the first point of contact for many companies in Burgenland when it comes to driving innovation forward. Our high success rate in funding projects, the strong demand from industry and the commitment of our team show that we are on the right track. We bring the expertise from research to where it is needed - right in the centre of Burgenland."
The Service Catalogue 2024 is available online and makes the diverse research work of the University and Research Burgenland transparent and comprehensible. It not only provides an overview of ongoing and completed projects, but also insights into the strategic direction and impact of research in Burgenland.
