The Applied CPS EDIH focuses on the construction, manufacturing and mobility sectors in south-east Austria and is the central point of contact for stakeholders in relation to the development and operation of CPS. The aim is to support SMEs and build a sustainable EDIH ecosystem to maximise digital maturity and capabilities. Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS) will dominate the 4th Industrial Revolution, in which software-defined systems and 24/7 availability are key functions. However, the technological scope to be covered and the complexity of developing and integrating CPS is challenging and poses a hurdle for start-ups, SMEs and mid-cap companies, preventing SMEs from joining the ongoing CPS revolution. The European Digital Innovation Hub (EDIH) Applied-CPS, founded in the south-eastern region of Austria, aims to change this situation and act as a central point of contact for SMEs regarding the development and operation of CPS. The EDIH partners are endeavouring to identify the main obstacles to CPS integration, with a focus on the construction, manufacturing and mobility sectors.

In doing so, they are attempting to implement vertical and horizontal integration outside of the typically separate technical and economic dimensions in a unique way.

Blockchain and distributed ledger technology.

Applied-CPS EDIH plans to offer a range of 275 customised services based on a graduated SME digitisation strategy:

SME onboarding
SME support and
Sustainably building the EDIH ecosystem - maximising digital maturity and digital capabilities.

According to the identified regional needs and available competences, the proposed hub is coherent with smart specialisation strategies and in line with European initiatives such as the European Data Strategy.
