The aim of the Creative_Circle project is to develop and implement an "energy transition cycle" in Eisenstadt. The city's energy system is set up as a circular economy, i.e. the locally available resources and energy flows should also be utilised locally.
On the one hand, this concerns the city's heating cycle: some of the city's waste heat has so far been released into the environment unutilised with the wastewater from households and businesses via the sewage treatment plant. This waste heat is now to be reutilised for the district heating network via a heat pump. This will reduce the amount of fuel used to generate heat and support the forthcoming expansion of the district heating network. On the other hand, the electricity cycle is also to be closed, meaning that locally generated electricity will increasingly be consumed locally. Everyone can benefit from this, both prosumers, i.e. households with their own PV system, and all others without their own electricity production.
Participation is made possible by the project's cooperation with the energy cooperative in Eisenstadt - which was initiated under the leadership of the city of Eisenstadt and the Raiffeisen Sustainability Initiative Burgenland (RNI).
Another aspect addressed by the Creative Circle project is the increasing overheating in summer and the associated need to adapt to climate change. The energy from the energy transition cycle is also used for the environmentally friendly operation of a multifunctional cooling centre, which offers a cool place to shelter from extreme heat free of charge. Different mobility options make the cooling centre easily accessible for all population groups.
