Automated energy accounting in local authorities
Energy accounting is a key tool for analysing the energy consumption of buildings, facilities and infrastructure. However, many local authorities face major challenges: data collection is time-consuming, often prone to errors and is made even more difficult by a lack of interfaces and limited staff resources. As a result, opportunities for energy savings are often not identified or are only realised after a delay.
This is precisely where DATA2EBO comes in. The project automates the collection, processing and visualisation of energy consumption data for electricity, heating and water, and enables standardised integration into the existing online energy accounting system (EBO). This digital solution reduces administrative burden and costs, whilst improving data quality and enabling local authorities to manage their energy flows more effectively.
Implementation takes place in three stages: the pilot regions are the KEM Hügelland Energy Experience Region and the KEM Weiz-Gleisdorf. Here, the first demonstration sites will be fitted with metering technology and tested. The second phase covers the Kulmland Energy Culture, including the pioneer towns of Weiz and Gleisdorf. In the third phase, the WEIZplus region, comprising 41 local authorities, will be integrated into the process.
DATA2EBO’s target groups range from local authorities and energy agencies to regional businesses wishing to make efficient use of energy data. Once the project is complete, the solution is to be made available to all local authorities and KEMs in Austria, so that digital energy accounting can be implemented nationwide.
