Development and demonstration of social, technical and economic innovations for improved system integration of PV

Energie & Umwelt

In order to achieve the EAG expansion target of 11 TWh by 2030 for photovoltaics, new solutions must be developed to accelerate the expansion. In this project, innovative individual solutions are to be found in various fields of action, networked into overall solutions and demonstrated.

With the EAG, Austria has set itself the goal of making the electricity sector in Austria 100% renewable by 2030. For photovoltaics, this means expanding electricity production by 11 TWh starting in 2020. In order to achieve this goal, solutions need to be developed now to accelerate the expansion of PV and keep it at a high level for years to come.

The aim of the project is therefore the participatory development and demonstration of integrated solutions in various fields of action using open innovation approaches:

  • Efficient, socially acceptable and ecological land use in all areas with a particular focus on multiple land use
  • Social acceptance and motivational factors, in particular to create incentives for private investment in PV systems and to support measures to promote the integration of PV systems into the existing energy system
  • Local, regional and supra-regional solutions for grid and system integration
  • Utilisation of new generation and load forecasts
  • commercial utilisation of the energy generated
  • Joint and standardised use of photovoltaic generation together with other forms of electricity generation and flexibilities, sector coupling and storage options

The intention is to develop corresponding individual solutions in an open innovation process, which will subsequently be networked into overall solutions and demonstrated as such.
