Women are the winners of the education offensive: this is the clear result of the Burgenland Women's Report 2014. In concrete terms, this means that more women than men graduate from high school and university - 61% of university degrees are awarded to women. The higher level of education also influences the employment rate of women, which has risen continuously since 2005. This trend is reflected in Burgenland's childcare provision - almost two thirds use all-day childcare facilities. However, the report also clearly shows where women are still at a disadvantage: In contrast to men, women are more likely to work part-time, with the rate currently standing at 86.8 per cent. And even among those working full-time, women earned a fifth less than men in 2013. This results in significant differences in income and consequently in pensions.

The women's report was compiled by the staff of Forschung Burgenland and the Department of Social Affairs at the Burgenland University of Applied Sciences and presented by Verena Dunst, Provincial Councillor for Women's Affairs. It shows the situation of women as well as gender-specific differences in Burgenland and thus helps to determine which support measures are effective and should be continued. This is also important to know because the new EU funding period is just around the corner. 2.7 million euros are available for innovative women's projects.

The women's report is the first research project to be completed by the Department of Social Affairs at the Burgenland University of Applied Sciences, which was founded in autumn 2014. An important principle in the department is that science should be a translator of complex issues and thus serve as many people as possible.
