GEHmeinde on the move - actively mobile for a sustainable future

The "GEHmeinde in Bewegung - aktiv mobil für eine nachhaltige Zukunft" project aims to promote active mobility and thus the health and quality of life of citizens in the Burgenland municipalities of Bernstein and Pinkafeld. At the same time, a contribution is to be made to climate protection. By walking and cycling, everyday journeys are to be made in a health-promoting and climate-friendly way - supported by awareness-raising measures, attractive infrastructure and targeted participation of the population. The target group consists of citizens of all age groups, with a focus on families - i.e. children, parents and grandparents - schoolchildren and representatives of local politics and administration. As part of the project, an evidence-based implementation concept to promote active mobility will be developed, specified and realised with each participating municipality.

In addition, the project aims to train pupils from schools in the participating municipalities as climate ambassadors (MS Bernstein, HLW Pinkafeld, HLPS Pinkafeld). Through their active involvement in the project, the pupils act as multipliers who sensitise their fellow citizens to the importance of active mobility for climate and health issues and thus increase their awareness and commitment to these issues.

The aims of the project include raising awareness of the benefits of active mobility and a healthy lifestyle, developing measures to promote physical activity in public spaces, strengthening skills in the communities and building sustainable structures, as well as promoting social contacts and intergenerational encounters.
