The transition to renewable energy systems requires the integration of flexible loads into the electricity grid, with vehicle-to-grid (V2G) technology playing a key role. The "Interoperable Communication for Bidirectional Charging" (ICBC) project is developing approaches for an interoperable V2G ecosystem to overcome existing challenges such as standards and protocols. The aim is a flexible ICT infrastructure that connects new and existing systems.

The interdisciplinary approach takes technical, social and ecological aspects into account in order to create a robust and sustainable V2G ecosystem. The project is orientated towards market requirements and stakeholder needs in order to reduceCO2 emissions and promote renewable energies. With iterative design processes and stakeholder involvement, ICBC strengthens European technology sovereignty and promotes open ICT solutions in the V2G sector.

The research strategy combines theory-driven modelling and design science research to test and optimise interoperability. In this way, the project contributes to the integration of renewable energies and a sustainable energy supply of the future.
