klimaaktiv buildings

Research & Innovation

The aim of the ‘klimaaktiv Gebäude’ programme is to raise awareness of climate-neutral and climate-resilient buildings throughout Austria, to promote them amongst various target groups and encourage others to follow suit, as well as to provide the expertise and tools needed for their implementation. The ‘klimaaktiv Gebäude’ standard forms the basis for this.

The klimaaktiv building standard combines the ‘Construction and Renovation’ and ‘Renewable Heat’ programmes, thereby strengthening Austria’s transition towards a climate-neutral building sector. The ‘klimaaktiv’ building standard is the leading standard across Austria and is regarded as a benchmark for quality in funding schemes, the property sector and numerous specialist bodies. It demonstrates how climate-friendly new builds and refurbishments can be successfully implemented.

The new programme supports building owners, planners, local authorities and businesses with clear requirements, tried-and-tested tools and up-to-date information on the heating transition. It highlights technologies, planning principles and best practice examples that inspire the implementation of further refurbishment and conversion projects.

‘klimaaktiv Gebäude’ contributes to achieving climate neutrality in the building sector by 2040, strengthens quality assurance in funding schemes and provides a platform for dialogue among key stakeholders. Across Austria, experienced partner organisations support implementation and ensure regional engagement as well as professional public relations work.
