The project is a pioneering initiative to put the provincial capital of Eisenstadt on the path to climate neutrality by 2040. Against the backdrop of global environmental crises and national endeavours to make cities more climate-friendly, the project aims to develop a comprehensive roadmap that takes all relevant sectors into account.

An in-depth analysis of existing strategies and measures in the key sectors of energy, mobility, buildings and waste management forms the basis for participatory processes in which local stakeholders and existing initiatives are actively involved in the design of the climate neutrality roadmap. The findings flow into the development of customised solutions for each sector to ensure broad acceptance and sustainable implementation.

The climate neutrality roadmap includes concrete targets and strategies for each sector, as well as a clear implementation plan that includes national and municipal financing options for the first two years. Capacity and structure plans describe administrative processes and structures for a climate-neutral orientation. A monitoring and evaluation process also ensures that the targets set are regularly reviewed and adjusted if necessary. Participation in the accompanying process of the "Climate Neutral City" mission promotes the exchange of experience and knowledge with other cities.
