The concrete industry is one of the world's largest emitters of greenhouse gases, and the project supports work at a leading manufacturer of concrete elements to minimise the product-related greenhouse gas balance.
The first of two project objectives is to provide methodological support for the preparation of environmental product declarations for concrete elements used in road construction. Literature research, consultations and topic-related workshops are used.
The second project objective is to support the development of innovative approaches to material savings and the use of new types of concrete through prospective greenhouse gas balances. The balances are drawn up on the basis of material lists, extensive literature research and screening models of the new concrete elements under consideration. In particular, new concrete mixtures are analysed. Methods from life cycle assessment with a focus on carbon footprinting are used.
