Update of the Life Cycle Inventory Natural Gas Supply Austria

Energie & Umwelt

As part of the LCI natural gas supply project, an update of the Life Cycle Inventory Natural Gas Supply Austria study is being carried out for the reference year 2021. Using the LCI approach, a life cycle inventory is created using a calculation model based on comprehensive data collection and records the greenhouse gas emissions along the natural gas supply chain in Austria for 2021.

As part of the LCI natural gas supply project, an update of the Life Cycle Inventory Natural Gas Supply Austria is being carried out in the form of a study. The aim of the study is to record all emissions generated during the extraction, processing, transport, storage and distribution of natural gas in Austria in 2021.

In order to draw up a life cycle inventory along the natural gas supply chain, comprehensive data was collected from the natural gas supply companies in Austria. In order to create a complete and plausible data basis, own measurement campaigns can also be carried out to collect missing data. The data is transferred to a calculation model and the individual process units are then parameterised, i.e. the energy consumption required for processing, the resulting emissions and the fugitive emissions (emission factors) resulting in the process units are entered.

The results generated can be used to determine the level of greenhouse gas emissions along the natural gas supply chain and to assess the position of the Austrian natural gas sector with regard to its fugitive emissions in 2021. The results of the study are then used for the calculations of the national emissions inventory "Fugitive emissions from energy supply and production".
