The aim of the project is to create a trustworthy "personal news system" that is fully compliant with EU law, stores data within the EU and takes readers' personal preferences into account without passing them on to so-called data octopuses. By integrating a wide variety of quality journalistically assessed sources(*), the aim is to create an inclusive platform that enables everyone to form their own opinion on current events. This includes in particular the preparation of topics for people with special needs. Currently, a critical reader must independently read content from various media in order to draw comparisons and generate their own opinion on the topic in question.
Central development content therefore relates to
- The presentation of articles in topic blocks, provided there is a lot of current content on the topic in the last 24 hours according to the international standard of the IPTC.
- Categorisation of news items according to IPTC standards.
- The evaluation of these articles with regard to the associated category, political categorisation of the medium and tonality of the article.
- Summarising topics in AI-generated texts.
- Application interface for people with different needs.
- Automatic creation of a podcast at the user's request for mobile use or for people with impaired vision.
- Possibility for an editorial team to integrate additional sources of information.
At the end of the project, a news aggregator platform should have been created that can provide its users with information relevant to them, regardless of a particular political orientation or special needs.
(*) The sub-project of the Burgenland University of Applied Sciences aims to create a database of German-language online media that are ranked according to transparent and unimpeachable quality criteria - as a seal of approval for the respective sources used in the system. The ranking is based on quality criteria to be determined in research as well as legal and ethical parameters. The central deliverable is the definition and establishment of a catalogue of criteria for ranking the media. In the final stage of the project, this catalogue will be tested and applied to the media with the highest online reach.
