REBATT investigates and demonstrates battery storage systems based on various technologies within real-world local electricity grids. The aim is to increase self-consumption, relieve pressure on the grids and compare modern storage solutions. Through monitoring, operational strategies and new business models, integration into buildings, neighbourhoods and energy communities is optimised.

The REBATT project is investigating battery storage solutions of various sizes and testing them for their practical suitability. In addition to standard lithium-ion systems, innovative storage technologies such as solid-state or lithium-free batteries are also being evaluated and compared in terms of performance and practical suitability.

By integrating storage systems into building, infrastructure and neighbourhood solutions, as well as into electric vehicle charging infrastructure, synergies between generation, mobility and consumption are being harnessed.

The implementation and demonstration of storage operations are based on the development of individual and overall operational concepts, in conjunction with a specially designed monitoring, control and data acquisition system used to document and validate the project results.

The project thus provides key insights into the systemic integration of innovative storage solutions, the reduction of grid loads and the establishment of decentralised, resilient energy systems.
