With around 150,000 people in Austria suffering from dementia, the disease represents an enormous social challenge. SimuDementia is an innovative virtual reality simulator that enables relatives, carers and trainees to experience the world from the perspective of dementia sufferers. The project is developing a mobile VR solution that simulates five typical everyday situations - from disorientation to sensory perception disorders.

The VR headset allows users to have an immersive and interactive experience through realistic hand tracking and optimised virtual environments. This promotes empathy, improves the quality of care and strengthens skills in dealing with dementia patients.

The project is being implemented by VitaBlick GmbH, which is already successful with VR journeys for senior citizens. The simulator is set to be available on the German-speaking market from 2025 and is expected to tap into an annual market potential of over 55 million euros.
