Summer colleges in Central and Eastern Europe

The International Business Relations degree programme at FH Burgenland has been organising summer colleges in the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Russia, Croatia and Poland since 1999. Every year, around 250 students from Austria and the respective target countries are given an excellent opportunity to deepen their knowledge of the language and the country. Students in the target countries in turn learn German. Students from all over Austria can apply for a place on the summer colleges and have the ECTS points earned recognised at their home university for the respective language courses.

Due to the war in Ukraine, the Summer College Moscow has been cancelled for 2022 until further notice. All other summer schools were successfully held in 2022.

The teaching materials for the colleges were developed in a research project, with the focus on the tandem principle: Two participants with different mother tongues learn the other language in partnership under the supervision of a teacher in order to improve their skills in this foreign language. The tandem materials developed in the project won the European Label for Innovative Language Projects back in 2007 and are constantly being expanded to include current topics.

Quality assurance projects are carried out on an ongoing basis.
