Unleashing Sector-coupling Flexibility by means of an Energy Data Space

USEFLEDS is researching the development of a common data exchange for the energy sector. A co-creation workspace combines the topics of data management, governance, energy management, data spaces and artificial intelligence in iterative process steps across projects. Building on these project focal points, the basis for a joint data exchange will be created, which will enable the development of data-driven services in favour of the energy transition and the achievement of climate targets.

The transition to renewable energy systems is critical to decarbonising society and ensuring economic and resilience benefits. The capacity of renewable energy generation poses challenges due to intermittent generation and seasonal dependencies. End users are motivated to actively participate in the energy market but lack centralised data, hence the need for data sharing, which is being developed as part of the USEFLEDS project. Achieving a temporal and spatial balance across energy networks is necessary. Decentralisation, decarbonisation, electrification, digitalisation, storage/flexibility use and energy efficiency are important trends that need to be addressed. The availability of usable data is crucial for the development and implementation of specific use cases and hinders progress if it is lacking.
