PHOTO COMPETITION: "Hydrogen - the energy of the future!"

Attention photography enthusiasts: Under the title "Hydrogen - the energy of the future!", a cross-border photography competition invites you to artistically showcase the many facets of hydrogen as a sustainable energy source. The aim of the competition is to visualise the importance and potential of this pioneering technology through expressive images. The competition is part of the international Interreg project  H2GreenFUTURE between Slovenia and Austria and aims to use creative perspectives to draw public attention to environmentally friendly energy solutions.

The H2GreenFUTURE project addresses the challenges associated with the development of hydrogen technologies for the transition to a carbon-neutral society in Slovenia and Austria. The increasing impact of climate change and the need to reduce greenhouse gas emissions necessitate the development of carbon-neutral technologies. In addition to the development of a pilot infrastructure for hydrogen technologies, the project also includes the creation of a comprehensive innovation ecosystem with a stable legal framework and the development of knowledge, skills and competences in the field of hydrogen and hydrogen technologies for various stakeholders.

With the photo competition "Hydrogen - the energy of the future!" the project partners want to sensitise the general public to the importance of hydrogen and the development of ground-breaking hydrogen technologies to achieve the green transition.

Hydrogen is the most abundant chemical element in space and on Earth, where it is usually bound with other chemical elements in water and organic compounds. It can therefore be produced from almost any energy source. The purest, so-called green hydrogen, is obtained from water by electrolysis. In a fuel cell, it generates electricity that can be used to power vehicles. The only emission produced is water vapour, which does not pollute the environment. However, due to the costly processes involved, green hydrogen technologies are rarely used in everyday life. Nevertheless, many laboratories at research institutions, educational establishments and companies are working on solutions for the wider use of these key technologies of the future.

Who can take part?

Kindergarten children, schoolchildren, students, researchers, entrepreneurs, users, professional and amateur photographers...

The sky and the sea are the only limits for the hydrogen theme - let your creativity run wild: photos of research or educational activities, of the use of hydrogen in work/production processes, of its use in everyday life or of educating young people about hydrogen.

How to apply?

The competition is open to all photography enthusiasts, regardless of age and experience. Each participant can submit up to three photos in colour or black and white.

  • Each photo must be accompanied by a caption (up to 50 characters with spaces) and a short explanation (up to 300 characters with spaces).
  • The photos must be originals and must not have been previously published.
  • The photos must be submitted in digital form, in JPEG or PNG format, with a minimum resolution of 300 dpi.
  • The photos must have a resolution of at least 10 megapixels in order to be presented in the exhibition.
  • The photo competition is open from 15/04/2025 to 30/09/2025!

Commission and selection

A jury composed of all H2GreenFUTURE partners will select the four winning photos (two from Austria and two from Slovenia).

Selection criteria:

  • Innovation - how well the image represents the potential of hydrogen and hydrogen technologies
  • Visual impact - aesthetics, creativity and clarity of the photo
  • Story - how effectively the image conveys the theme

Prizes

Winners who submit winning photos will receive:

  • H2GreenFUTURE  promotional package
  • Participation in a future project event (tour of the hydrogen technology laboratory / H2 Green Demonstrator pilot project / demonstration of a hydrogen-powered car model)*.

*Event will be selected in consultation with the winner

The winning photos will also complement the project's promotional activities:

  • Demonstration postcards will be produced.
  • They will complement the H2GreenFUTURE travelling exhibition to raise public awareness of the importance of developing green hydrogen technologies.
  • They will be published in the H2GreenFUTURE e-newsletter and on the project's LinkedIn profile.

Other photos will be published on the Hydrogen Centre's website after consultation with the authors in order to promote its activities in the field of hydrogen technologies.
