Eisenstadt/Schlaining - 4 June. 2025: The Seewinkel region is under severe pressure from increasing drought, falling groundwater levels and unpredictable weather events. This is precisely where Markus Schindler's project comes in: With the help of artificial intelligence (AI), a platform is to be developed that analyses environmental conditions and water levels in real time and enables forecasts to be made. The aim is to support farmers and decision-makers with reliable data for sustainable water management.
Markus Schindler explains how diverse the benefits are: ‘The project focuses on more efficient use of resources in agriculture, protection of the environment, new scientific findings and economic impetus for the region.’ The project will run from October 2024 to March 2026.

About the person:
Markus Schindler, born in 1996 in Wiener Neustadt and resident in Loipersbach, is a graduate of the HTL Eisenstadt (Mechatronics) and the FH Wiener Neustadt (Mechatronics, MSc). He has been conducting research at Forschung Burgenland GmbH since 2020 and also works as an external lecturer at Burgenland University of Applied Sciences.
The Theodor Kery Prize honours a project that impressively demonstrates how modern technology can contribute to climate adaptation in agriculture.
