The Climate and Energy Fund was commissioned by the Climate Protection Ministry to establish the "Austrian Coordination Centre for Energy Communities". The aim is to optimise the framework conditions for the implementation of energy communities throughout Austria. The coordination centre should simplify the establishment and operation, ensure quality and guarantee uniform regulations throughout the country. Continuous monitoring and evaluation at federal level is planned in order to adapt legislation. Independent public advice for energy communities will be strengthened by a joint federal and provincial work programme. Forschung Burgenland is supporting Burgenland within the initiative with focal points such as activating the education sector, documenting examples of best practice and integrating new technological approaches and cross-sector energy communities.

In order to bundle activities for the promotion of renewable energy communities and to establish energy communities in Austria on a sustainable basis, the Ministry of Climate Protection (BMK) has entrusted the Climate and Energy Fund with the establishment of the "Austrian Coordination Centre for Energy Communities".

The aim of this office is to optimise the framework conditions for a successful Austria-wide implementation of the energy community model and to provide assistance in setting up energy communities.

The aim is to ensure that processes for the establishment and operation of energy communities are organised in an uncomplicated, efficient, fast and transparent manner in order to keep the entry threshold for new energy communities low while ensuring quality. Furthermore, constant monitoring and evaluation should take place at federal level in order to adapt laws. This is intended to ensure the best possible implementation of standardised nationwide energy communities.

A joint work programme between the federal government and the federal provinces is intended to strengthen independent public advice for energy communities. The on-site advice provided by the established energy agencies and institutes in the federal provinces is supported by the Austrian Coordination Centre for Energy Communities.
