The EE-Heritage project combines the preservation of cultural heritage with the requirements of energy efficiency and sustainability in the Danube region. The aim is to reduce energy consumption in listed buildings, improve their comfort and health through AI-supported building management systems and sensor-based technologies while preserving their historical integrity. The consortium of development organisations, research institutions, NGOs and energy service providers is working together across national borders. Key elements of the project are non-invasive renovation methods, adaptation to legal requirements, the use of advanced technologies and targeted user participation. Gamification approaches are used to motivate residents and users to adopt sustainable behaviour. EE-Heritage first creates a comprehensive energy and building data mapping, analyses regulatory frameworks and develops a work plan based on this. The project serves as a model for the sustainable modernisation of cultural heritage buildings in Europe and shows how tradition and technological innovation can be combined for a sustainable future.
