Cancer screening examinations tend to be utilised less frequently throughout Austria than in international comparison. The Burgenland University of Applied Sciences is conducting a study on behalf of the Austrian Cancer Aid Burgenland to determine the reasons for this. The aim is to find out how the acceptance and utilisation of cancer screening in Burgenland can be increased and what obstacles may exist.

The project comprises several phases with qualitative and quantitative surveys. Firstly, focus group discussions are conducted to identify barriers. Based on the results of the focus groups, a structured questionnaire will be developed, which will be used as part of a systematic survey of the Burgenland population to record motives and barriers. The collected data will then be systematically analysed to generate well-founded findings on the causes of low participation in preventive medical check-ups and to derive practical recommendations.
