Innovative building projects are used to analyse the interplay between heating and cooling requirements. Three residential buildings are equipped with a different combination of supply technologies. Among other things, the integration of heat pumps, photovoltaic systems, electric heating elements and the integration of the district heating network will be analysed. Ideally, it should be possible to cover the heating and cooling requirements of different building types over the annual cycle, either independently or in combination with a supply network. To this end, both the behaviour of the decentralised supply system and the behaviour in conjunction with a district heating network are being investigated and optimisation options developed. Specific questions are derived from the combination of individual supply technologies. The district heating network is used to supply heat to one of the three residential buildings. In the summer months, cooling is also supplied using the local district heating network, with the district heating network acting as a heat sink. In another building, in addition to the integration of the district heating network, the heat from the locally produced waste water is utilised. The third building system is planned as a "self-sufficient system". This will dispense with a district heating connection and instead utilise geothermal heat from deep boreholes. Forschung Burgenland GmbH is providing scientific support in a research project being conducted by Wien Energie GmbH as part of the innovative Aspern Smart City Research (ASCR) energy research project.
