Scientific support for the development of addiction prevention measures

Economy

Based on focus group discussions, the project was able to generate insights into perspectives on addictions. The results include aggregated information on perspectives on addictions in a non-public report: (1) awareness, (2) description, (3) consequences and (4) dealing with addictions. This is followed by an explanation of the findings on the communication and information behaviour of young people, including a reference to the planned measures.

The health and well-being of young people are essential foundations for a sustainable society. Particularly in the sensitive phase of adolescence, many young people face challenges that shape the way they deal with risks as well as their social, emotional and psychological development.

Addictive behaviour, whether in the form of substance abuse (e.g. alcohol, tobacco or drugs) or non-substance-related addictions (e.g. excessive media consumption, gambling), poses a serious risk that can have a significant impact not only on the quality of life of those affected, but also on their social environment.

The results of focus group discussions are intended to support decisions on the development of targeted addiction prevention measures. The aim of this study is therefore to provide a scientifically sound basis for the aforementioned programme. The topic of "addiction" is addressed from various perspectives: Awareness of addictions, description of addiction, consequences of addictive behaviour, dealing with addiction/addicts. In addition, insights into communication and information behaviour are gained and processed.
